Church of St. Nicholas on Krudum

Church of St. Nicholas on Krudum

Go to the Krudum hill, where you will see the ruins of the Church of St. Nicholas. Mount Krudum can be found between Sokolov and Horní Slavkov. The name Krudum comes from the Celts who settled in this region. The first written mention of it dates back to 1253, when it is recorded that the church was a gift of the Crusader Order from Wenceslas I.

The Church of St. Nicholas served villages that are now extinct. In its time, it was a beautiful church that served the inhabitants of the villages as well as pilgrims or merchants. The church was also much frequented by miners who worked throughout the area. When mining ceased, the church slowly began to deteriorate to its present form.

The church is shrouded in many legends, such as the one where the souls of the miners would regularly go to mass at St Nicholas Church. According to some, the church also hides great wealth, which is why it attracts treasure hunters.
