Jáchymov

Jáchymov

The town of Jáchymov is located 21 km from Karlovy Vary. It is a small spa town under the mighty ridges of the Ore Mountains. Not only does Jáchymov offer suitable conditions for winter sports, hiking or cycling, but it is also the town of the first radon baths with a rich mining history and the minting of thalers. In 2009 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the 1950s, uranium and silver were mined in the town. You have the opportunity to look into the original adits. You will walk through 260 metres of underground space and see historic mining technology. The adit is also a reminder of the Svornost camp, where political prisoners were forced to work. Jáchymov is the cradle of the thaler, so you can visit the Royal Mint from the 16th century and get a glimpse into the history of mining activity and creation.

Children will enjoy a visit to the Agricola Aquacentre, where they will find a 25-metre swimming pool with two swimming lanes and attractions such as side massage jets, bottom massage grates and a waterfall, and above all a water slide. At the pool you will also find a whirlpool, a children’s paddling pool with a waterfall, a rehabilitation pool for aquafitness or a Kneipp walkway.
