Head to Krudum Hill, where you’ll see the ruins of St. Nicholas Church. Krudum Hill is located between Sokolov and Horní Slavkov. The name Krudum comes from the Celts who settled in this region. The first written mention of it dates back to 1253, when it was recorded that the church was a gift to the Order of the Knights of the Cross from Wenceslas I.
St.Nicholas Church served villages that no longer exist today. In its heyday, it was a magnificent church that served both the villagers and pilgrims or merchants. The church was also frequently visited by miners who worked throughout the area. When mining ceased, the church slowly fell into disrepair until it reached its current state.
The church is shrouded in many legends, such as the one in which the souls of miners regularly attend Mass at St. Nicholas Church. According to some, the church also hides great riches, which is why it attracts treasure hunters.
