You can also take a trip to Andělská Hora, an important pilgrimage site near Karlovy Vary. Pilgrims used to gather here at a spring that healed the sick. Although the spring is no longer there, a commemorative linden tree was planted in its honor.

The main attractions of the site are the castle ruins and the pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity, which was built as early as 1712. The church surprises visitors particularly with its triangular layout. In contrast, the castle’s history dates back to the 14th century. It experienced its heyday during the Hussite Wars, when the warrior Jakoubek of Vřešovice launched military raids from it. The castle then stood until the Thirty Years’ War, when it was burned down by the Swedes. After its restoration, it stood until the first half of the 18th century, when it burned down along with its surroundings.

Although only ruins remain of the castle today, the views from it are definitely worth it. On a clear day, you can enjoy views of the Doupov Mountains, for example.
