The town of Jáchymov is located 21 km from Karlovy Vary. It is a small spa town nestled beneath the majestic ridges of the Ore Mountains. Not only does Jáchymov offer ideal conditions for winter sports, hiking, and cycling, but it is also the site of the first radon spa, with a rich mining history and a tradition of minting thalers. In 2009, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the 1950s, uranium and silver were mined in the town. You have the opportunity to explore the original mine tunnels. You’ll walk through 260 meters of underground passages while viewing historic mining equipment. The tunnel also serves as a memorial to the Svornost camp, where political prisoners were forced to work. Jáchymov is the birthplace of the thaler, so you can visit the 16th-century Royal Mint and gain insight into the history of mining and coin production.
Children are sure to enjoy a visit to the Agricola Aquacenter, where they’ll find a 25-meter pool with two swimming lanes and attractions such as side massage jets, floor massage grids, a waterfall, and, above all, a water slide. Near the pool, you’ll also find a hot tub, a children’s wading pool with a waterfall, a rehabilitation pool for aqua fitness, and a Kneipp path.
