About 40 km south of the regional capital, Karlovy Vary, lies the picturesque town of Teplá. The town’s most prominent landmark is the Baroque Church of St. Giles. Near the church stands the town hall and a Renaissance building with a mansard roof, which today houses the Teplá Municipal Office. Another interesting landmark is the octagonal Baroque Chapel of the Holy Trinity.
A building definitely worth visiting is the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá, founded by the Czech magnate Hroznata, whose remains are interred in the northern chapel of the monastery church. The monastery complex is dominated by the Romanesque-Gothic Church of the Annunciation, built between 1193 and 1232. Regular services are held in the church, and it is open to tourists for tours. In addition to the beautiful Baroque interiors, you can also explore the monastery park, built in the English style at the beginning of the 20th century. As you walk through the park, you may come across the Lourdes Grotto or the modern Stations of the Cross by sculptor V. Gaťařík. The Hroznatova Academy Cultural and Educational Center offers tourists various guided tours of the monastery’s historic spaces, allowing you to learn interesting facts about life there.
