The ancient town of Cheb is located near the German border. The dominant feature of this historic town is Cheb Castle, the most significant Romanesque monument in the Czech Republic. Brick walls with casemates—underground passages that you can visit as part of the exhibition—have been preserved from the Baroque period. The castle also includes the Chapel of St. Erhard and St. Ursula, and the castle itself is guarded by the Black Tower, named after the black volcanic tuff from which it is built. Military history enthusiasts can explore the exhibition in the bastion, which focuses on several selected wartime episodes connected to the town.
The symbol of Cheb is undoubtedly the Špalíček, the house of Roland Pachelbel, where Albrecht von Wallenstein was murdered. Other city landmarks include St. Nicholas Church, the town hall, and the Baroque pilgrimage church of Maria Loreto.
