Do you like abandoned places? Then join us on a trip to the abandoned village of Skoky, which has been completely deserted since 1982. Leave your car in the nearby village of Sovolusky, from where it’s just a few kilometers’ walk before the pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary comes into view. Explore the church and the old houses, now reclaimed by nature.
The village’s abandonment was largely due to the post-war expulsion of Germans from the Sudetenland and the subsequent communist regime, which resettled the local inhabitants to a nearby collective farm. Although the village is deserted today, several projects to preserve it have recently emerged, and a festival is held here once a year.
An interesting fact to conclude: did you know that the well-known saying “Panenko skákavá” originates from here?
