The Kladská Nature Trail is located in the Kladské Rašeliny National Nature Reserve, which is the largest and oldest reserve in the Karlovy Vary Region. Visitors are likely most familiar with its section within the Slavkovský Les Protected Landscape Area. The trail introduces visitors to the history of the Kladská settlement, as well as the flora and fauna found in the Kladské peat bog and Slavkovský Les areas.
The peat bogs began to form tens of thousands of years ago when water collected in small ponds in certain areas, which during the Quaternary period became overgrown with aquatic plants and certain species of sphagnum moss. The vegetation covering the peat bog is called bog pine. Among the fauna, you may encounter the capercaillie or the black stork. The local flora also provides an ideal habitat for the pygmy owl, the goshawk, or the woodpecker. Among mammals, you may even rarely spot the Eurasian lynx here.
The nature reserve trail is 2.3 km long and offers visitors the chance to admire the mountain upland peat bogs located at elevations of up to 930 m. In total, there are several peat bogs spread across an area of 300 ha: Tajga, Paterák, Lysina, and Husí les.
The trail takes you along a wooden walkway around Kladský Pond and past the Kladské peat bogs known as Tajga. The entire trail is designed so that you can rest from time to time or enjoy the beautiful views. Part of the trail is even wheelchair-accessible.
